Los Angeles, USA - At the SID Display Week 2023 (hosted by The Society for Information Display<SID>) held during May 21 to 26, The Distinguished Paper Award was presented to an outstanding research paper on "Novel pancake-based HMD optics to improve light efficiency" presented by Sharp Display Technology Corporation.
SID is the world's largest display-related academic society with more than 7,000 members. Display companies, universities, and research institutes introduce their latest technologies at the annual Display Week, and this year there were more than 300 technical presentations in all.
Pancake lenses* are increasingly being used for lenses mounted on HMDs. While it enables to miniaturize the device size, further improvement of light-utilization efficiency has been a challenge. This newly announced technology improves light-utilization efficiency by approximately 1.8 times through the development of new optical technology, enabling reductions in power consumption and battery size.
● This technology is jointly announced with Kantatsu Co., Ltd. .
