"One-of-a-Kind" Story
Sharp developed a 108V-inch LCD TV, the world's largest*, and exhibited a prototype at the 2007 International CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, US, held from January 8, 2007.
The LCD screen, which measures 2,386 H by 1,344 V mm, features a Black Advanced Super View Full-HD LCD Panel manufactured at Sharp's Kameyama Plant No. 2, the first plant in the world to use 8th generation glass substrates.
Since developing the world's first 14V-inch color TFT LCD TV in 1988, Sharp has consistently led the industry with larger screen sizes, introducing the first 45V-inch model in 2004 and the first 65V-inch LCD TV in 2005.
With this successful development, Sharp demonstrated that it is possible to produce LCD TVs in sizes ranging from 13 inches to super-large sizes like the 108-inch, proving that LCD is the predominant display device in the flat-panel television market.
