1964 CS-10A All-Transistor Calculator

In 1964, Sharp developed and introduced the world's first all-transistor-diode electronic desktop calculator. At the time, it sold for 535,000 yen, about the same price as a 1300-cc car.
Four years earlier, in 1960, a group of young engineers at Sharp began studying the application of computer and semiconductor technology with an eye to the future. This was the start of Sharp's R&D division.
At first, the engineers looked into developing mainframe computers but abandoned this idea for a number of reasons.
They then took up the idea of developing a calculator that anyone could use anytime and anywhere, and their efforts paid off with this product's introduction in 1964.
