"One-of-a-Kind" Story

1969 QT-8D LSI Calculator

After Sharp introduced the CS-10A in 1964, many other manufacturers entered the market and the "calculator wars" began.
To win this battle, it was absolutely essential that we make products that were small, inexpensive, and energy-efficient.
We believed that the key to achieving these conditions was the MOS (metal oxide semiconductor) LSI (large-scale integrated circuit) and we decided to mass-produce this.
In a technical tie-up with North American Rockwell, we began mass-producing ELSIs (extra-large-scale integrated circuits) that went into the world's first LSI calculator.
