Net Sales by Product Group
Note: Net sales by Product Group include internal sales between segments (Consumer/Information Products and Electronic Components). Also, from the latter
half of fiscal 2005, the IC group was renamed the LSI group, and some items previously included in ICs were allocated to Other Electronic Components. Accordingly, results of the three months ended June 30, 2005 have been reclassified.

Consumer/Information Products
Sales for Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment were 296.6 billion yen, up 24.0% over the same period last year, reflecting increased sales of LCD TVs, mainly large-screen models. Strong sales of mobile phones also contributed to the overall growth.
Sales of LCD TVs were 117.5 billion yen, 1.4 times the same period in the last year, and on a unit basis, 1.12 million, 1.5 times that of last year.
In the first quarter of this fiscal year, sales of large-screen models continued their strong growth performance. The percentage of unit sales for models 30 inches and larger was 32% during the first quarter of last year; that increased to 45% in the same quarter this fiscal year. Selling prices for LCD TVs dropped by around 30% compared to a year ago, however, Sharp's ASP (Average Selling Price) during the first quarter dropped by only 4% compared to the same period last year. This was due to a rise in the sales ratio for large-screen models and brisk sales of full high-definition models, which have a resolution of 2.07 million pixels—the same number required for high-definition broadcasting. From now until the Christmas holidays, a further increase in demand for large-screen models is anticipated.
Sales of mobile phones were 131.6 billion yen, up 24%, and on a unit basis, 3.47 million, up 22%, over the same period last year. Both figures represent new records on a quarterly basis. Sales increased mainly for new value-added models introduced into the Japanese market, such as the Vodafone model equipped with "One Seg" digital broadcasting capability, and the new FOMA® model with prolonged music playback capability.
Sales for Home Appliances were 57.7 billion, up 0.2% over the same period last year.
Sales of uniquely featured products expanded, including the HEALSIO superheated steam ovens and drum-type washer/dryers, while sales of air conditioners slumped due to unseasonable weather. Overall sales for Home Appliances were on par with the same period last year.
Sales for Information Equipment were 101.3 billion yen, down 4.7% from the same period last year. A decline in PC sales led to the overall sales decrease.
In all, sales for the three product groups comprising Consumer/Information Products totaled 455.8 billion yen, up 13.0% over the same period last year.
Electronic Components
Sales for LSIs were 46.3 billion yen, up 8.6% over the same period last year, with CCD/CMOS imagers for mobile phones and digital cameras selling well.
Sales for LCDs were 231.7 billion yen, up 36.9% over the same period last year.
In this first quarter, expanded sales of AQUOS as well as the trend toward larger screen sizes contributed to a significant increase in sales of large-size LCD panels. In addition, sales of small- and medium-size LCDs—primarily System LCDs for mobile phones—remained strong, surpassing sales in the same period last year.
Though the price of LCD panels for TVs dropped lower than initially projected—particularly for 32-inch models—given the predicted year-end increase in demand, panel prices are expected to stabilize.
Sales for Other Electronic Components, driven by increased sales of solar cells, were 77.2 billion yen, up 12.6% over the same period last year.
In this first quarter, sales of solar cells were 38.7 billion yen, an increase of 18% over the same period last year.
In all, sales for the three product groups comprising Electronic Components totaled 355.2 billion yen, up 26.7% from the same period last year.
