Note: Sales by Product Group include internal sales between segments (Consumer/Information Products and Electronic Components). Also, starting from the three months ended June 30, 2008, product groupings have been recategorized and changed from the previous groupings of Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment, Home Appliances, Information Equipment, LSIs, LCDs and Other Electronic Components to Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment, Health and Environmental Equipment, Information Equipment, LCDs, Solar Cells and Other Electronic Devices.
Consumer/Information Products
Sales of Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment were 335.5 billion yen, down 17.8% over the same period last year. Although sales of LCD TVs and Blu-ray Disc recorders showed continued growth, sales of mobile phones declined.
Sales of Health and Environmental Equipment were 57.7 billion yen, down 10.2% over the same period last year. Among Sharp’s mainstay products, sales of refrigerators grew, though a decline in sales of air conditioners led to an overall sales decrease.
Sales of Information Equipment were 91.7 billion yen, down 12.0% over the same period last year, reflecting a decline in sales of wireless PDAs.
As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Consumer/Information Products were 485.0 billion yen, down 15.9% over the same period last year.
Electronic Components
Sales of LCDs were 316.0 billion yen, up 24.0% over the same period last year. Sales of large-size LCDs for TVs grew as a result of expanded production capacity at the Kameyama No. 2 Plant, while sales of small- and medium-size LCDs also grew.
Sales of Solar Cells were 42.0 billion yen, up 38.2% from the same period last year, reflecting growth in overseas sales against a backdrop of strong demand.
Sales of Other Electronic Devices were 84.9 billion yen, down 9.4% compared to the same period last year, as a result of declining sales of CCD/CMOS imagers and flash memory which were affected by the slowdown in the mobile phone market.
As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Electronic Components were 442.9 billion yen, up 16.9% over the same period last year.
