Consumer/Information Products
Sales of Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment in fiscal 2010 were 1,426.7 billion yen, up 7.1%, and operating income was 40.7 billion yen, 2.6 times that of the previous year. As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Consumer/Information Products were 1,970.5 billion yen, up 6.9%, and operating income was 79.2 billion yen, up 49.3% over the previous year.
Electronic Components
Sales of LCDs in fiscal 2010 were 1,026.9 billion yen, up 17.0% over the previous year. Sales of small- and medium-size LCDs were strong thanks to rapid growth in demand for high value-added LCD panels for use in smartphones and tablet terminals. Sales of large-size LCDs benefited from growth in the LCD TV market. However, operating income was 17.0 billion yen, down 6.8% compared to the previous year, reflecting the impact of declining prices for large-size LCD panels and a production adjustment stemming from a worsening supply/demand balance in the latter half of 2010.
Sales of Solar Cells were 265.5 billion yen, up 27.2% over the previous year, reflecting continued strong sales both in Japan and overseas. However, operating income was 2.1 billion yen, down 58.7% compared to the previous year, resulting from escalating price competition.
Sales of Other Electronic Devices were 261.5 billion yen, down 9.6%, and operating income was 11.5 billion yen, down 1.0%, both compared to the previous year.
As a result, sales of these three product groups comprising Electronic Components were 1,554.0 billion yen, up 13.0%, and operating income was 30.7 billion yen, down 12.4% compared to the previous year.
