Sharp Holds European Environmental Forum at Hannover Messe

Approximately 20 journalists from major European media organizations filled the Convention Center of the Hannover Messe as Sharp held its European Environmental Forum on April 23, 2008.

Before the forum, Sharp led a tour of its booth, where guests were extremely impressed with a next-generation, ultra-thin 65-inch LCD TV powered entirely by solar energy (a concept model), as well as by the latest solar power generation technologies, just a few of the exhibits that demonstrated Sharp's goal of reducing its global warming impact through energy-creating and energy-saving products.

At the forum, Toshio Adachi, Corporate Senior Executive Vice President, outlined Sharp and talked about the new manufacturing complex in Sakai, Japan as a prime example of how Sharp aims to become an environmentally advanced company by focusing on LCDs and solar cells.

Group General Manager Hiroshi Morimoto of the Environmental Protection Group followed with videos of the Kameyama Plant and explanatory panels to give attendees a clearer picture of Sharp's company-wide environmental efforts. Next was Barbara Rudek of Sharp Electronics (Europe) GmbH (SEEG), who introduced a few of the many installations of Sharp solar power generation systems in Europe.

The forum ended with a spirited question-and-answer session, demonstrating the high level of interest in environmental protection in Europe.

Sharp has held Environment Forums in China and Japan and now intends to hold more of them in Europe to stress its goal of becoming an environmentally advanced company.
