Sharp Introduces New Residential Polycrystalline Photovoltaic Modules in Japan

Polycrystalline Solar Module (ND-191AV) Achieves Industry’s No.1*1 Conversion Efficiency of 14.4% and Expands Installation Capacity by Improving Wind Pressure Resistance

Sharp Corporation has developed a polycrystalline photovoltaic module (peaked-roof/ flat-roof model: ND-191AV) that achieves the industry’s No. 1*1 module conversion efficiency of 14.4%. This module also features an installation capacity that is an average of 1.5 times*2 greater than previous modules due to the strengthening of wind pressure resistance. A total of five new fiscal 2008 residential models for Japan will be released.

The five new models will incorporate a newly developed highly efficient cell that reduces the loss in power collection by increasing the number of main electrodes from two to three, and increases the light receiving area by making the electrodes thinner. Through these improvements, module conversion efficiency has been increased. In addition, the strengthened wind pressure resistance of racking systems and modules allows them to be installed nearly all the way out to roof edges, expanding installation capacity considerably.

This conversion efficiency increase and expansion of installation capacity are possible due to the reliability and technological expertise Sharp has accumulated over the years. As an environmentally advanced company, Sharp will use this new line-up to help reduce residential CO2 emissions.

Major features
1. Peaked-roof/flat-roof model ND-191AV
By using newly developed high-efficiency cell technology, the industry’s No. 1 module conversion rate, 14.4%, has been achieved. In addition, installation capacity is increased by 1.5 times*2 due to the strengthened wind pressure resistance.

2. Peaked-roof/flat-roof model ND-160AV
By using newly developed high-efficiency cell technology, one of the industry’s highest conversion rates, 13.9%, has been achieved. In addition, installation capacity is increased by 1.2 times*2 due to the strengthened wind pressure resistance.

3. Hipped-roof models ND-114CV/ND-061LV/ND-061RV
The installation capacity is increased by 1.3 times*3 due to newly developed high-efficiency cell technology and strengthened wind pressure resistance. (The ND-114CV can also be installed on peaked roofs and flat roofs.)
