Sharp Sets Up Test Site for Germany’s Blue Angel Certification

Sharp Corporation’s Nara Environment Test Site (Nara Plant, Japan) was recently certified by Germany’s BAM*1 research institute to carry out the in-house testing needed for Sharp copiers, MFPs, and printers to apply for the environmental Blue Angel Mark.

Sharp previously had third-party institutes test its products, but with the BAM certification of the Nara Environment Test Site, the company can carry out in-house testing there to obtain the data needed for its copiers, MFPs, and printers to be certified for the Blue Angel Mark. This will dramatically shorten the certification process.

Established in 1978 as the first-ever environmental label, Blue Angel is now recognized as the world’s leading such label. More and more governments and major corporations around the world are making Blue Angel certification a prerequisite for manufacturers of MFPs and other office equipment to bid for contracts. Before a company can acquire the Blue Angel Mark, it must have its products tested by a BAM-certified testing institute for emissions of VOCs*2, ozone, and dust.

With the BAM certification of the Nara Environment Test Site, Sharp will provide customers with copiers, MFPs, and printers that offer superior environmental performance they can have confidence in.
