Operating Income by Product Group
(1)Consumer/Information Products
Operating income for Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment was 10.1 billion yen, up 1.9% over the same period last year.
Operating income for Home Appliances was 0.3 billion yen, approximately 12 times the same period last year, and Information Equipment were 5.5 billion yen, up 22.5% over the same period last year.
As a result, operating income of the above three product groups of Consumer/Information Products was 16.0 billion yen, up 10.7% over the same period last year.
(2)Electronic Components
Operating income for ICs was 2.4 billion yen, down approximately 40% from the same period last year. Declined sales in flash memory as well as CCD and CMOS imagers account for this decrease in profit compared to the same period last year.
Operating income of LCDs was 12.1 billion yen, up 46.8% over the same period last year. Because our LCD panels are used for a wide variety of products such as LCD color TVs, mobile phones, car navigation systems and game/amusement equipment, our LCD business is far less vulnerable to market fluctuations. Further, as almost half the large-size panels produced are being used for in-house products such as LCD color TVs, a stable earning structure is established.
Operating income of Other Electronic components was 5.6 billion yen, approximately equal to the same period last year. While the profitability of solar cells improved due to increased production, the profit of laser diodes and other devices decreased.
As a result, operating income for these three device product groups that comprise Electronic Components was 20.2 billion yen, up 11.7% over the same period last year.
