[ Consumer/Information Products ]
For the three months ended December 31, 2007, sales of Audio-Visual and Communication Equipment were 448.9 billion yen, up 11.6% over the same period last year, thanks to increased sales of LCD TVs and DVD recorders.
Sales of Home Appliances were 59.5 billion yen, nearly the same as the same period in the previous year.
While sales of microwave ovens declined compared to the same period last year, air purifiers equipped with Plasmacluster Ion generators expanded.
Sales of Information Equipment were 106.9 billion yen, about the same level as the same period last year.
While sales of personal computers declined, copier/printers as well as wireless PDAs grew.
As a result, sales of the three product groups comprising Consumer/Information Products were 615.4 billion yen, up 8.1% over the same period last year.
[ Electronic Components ]
Sales of LSIs were 54.3 billion yen, up 19.5% over the same period last year.
Increased sales of CCD/CMOS imagers for mobile phones and digital cameras offset slowing sales of flash memory.
Sales of LCDs continued to show healthy growth, reaching 306.6 billion yen, up 27.0% over the same period last year.
Due to a production increase at the Kameyama No. 2 Plant begun in July 2007, both external and internal sales of LCD panels for TVs expanded. LCDs for mobile devices also continued to do well.
Sales of Other Electronic Components were 74.3 billion yen, down 6.1%, reflecting a drop in sales of solar cells.
As a result, sales of the three product groups comprising Electronic Components were 435.3 billion yen, up 18.9% over the same period in the preceding year.
By product group, Consumer/Information Products accounted for 66.8% and Electronic Components 47.3% of net sales, with the percentage of Electronic Components increasing 2.7 percentage points from the 44.6% in the same period of the previous year.
