Product/RoHS Directive Inquiries

Q1. What is the difference between optoelectronics and regulators with suffixes of “0F” or “0H” and those without?

Examples:
GP1S52V has been changed to GP1S52VJ000F, PC357NT to PC357NTJ000F. When products are designated RoHS-compliant, their product numbers are changed to reflect that, by adding either “0F” or “0H.” However, certain products without “0F” or “0H” designation may still be RoHS-compliant (GP2S60 or PT100MC0MP for example).

Q2. Two electronic components with different model numbers are listed as being the same component. Are they?

Examples:
GP1S52VJ000F and GP7S52VJ000F, GP1A05AJ000F and GP5A05AJ000F, PC817XJ0000F and PC817R6J000F, PC900V0NSZXF and PC900V0NSZX6. Certain identical items may have different product numbers depending on the factory that produced them. Parts like GP1S52VJ000F and GP1A05AJ000F are in fact interchangeable and may be substituted one for the other.

Q3. Even with photocouplers that have the same product numbers, there are some that have an underlined “4” and some that don't. What's the difference?

An underlined “4” indicates that the product has received VDE approval (example: DIN EN60747-5-2 : successor standard of DIN VDE0884).

Q4. What does “OPIC output” signify?

“OPIC” (Optical IC) is a trademark of SHARP Corporation. An OPIC component consists of a light-detecting element and a signal-processing circuit integrated onto a single chip, making it possible to output directly to logic circuits like TTL or CMOS circuits.

Technology-related Inquiries

Photocoupler

Q1. What should I do if I do not need to use the base terminals in photocouplers that come equipped with them?

Basically, you should have no problem leaving the terminal open, but if you experience any noise, you can insert a 1 MΩ resistor into the base emitter opening. This may deteriorate the sensitivity (CTR) of the photocoupler, so if you know that you will not be using the base terminal, be sure to use a model that does not have one.

Q2. How do I read photocoupler date codes?

Sharp photocoupler, phototriac coupler, and solid-state relay date codes use the old DIN standard.

Photointerrupters

Q3. What is the difference between photointerrupters with built-in pull-up resistor and those without?

Models with built-in pull-up resistor may be used as-is, but since those without built-in pull-up resistor output open-collector signals, an external pull-up resistor is needed.

Distance Measuring Sensors

Q4. What is the difference between the digital and analog output of distance measuring sensors?

Digital output determines if the object within the detectable range is nearer or farther than the set distance. Analog output determines the distance of the object within the detectable range, giving linear voltage output that corresponds to differences in distance.

Q5. The output of my analog distance measuring sensor does not conform to the specifications.

Please check the following points:
• Noise from the power supply circuitry;
• If there is a visible-light filter between the sensor and object;
• If there is any reflected or foreign light interfering with measurement;
• If there are any mirrored surfaces on the object;
• If the object to be measured is not aligned with the axis of the infrared light emitted from the sensor.
